Don’t miss this site, which provides free online chess lessons and quizzes for kids, and a downloadable pack to start a chess club in no time. While the site is really targeted for children somewhere around 10 and 12 years of age (because that’s the time in life we acquire the logic skills abilities needed to play chess), it also provides extensive resources for parents and teachers.
The site is not too appealing in terms of the design, but the activities are just awesome: the best way to start is to try the interactive lessons (you need to have Java enabled), which show students the basics of board and pieces’ moves, and then users are encouraged to take a quiz to make sure they’re on the right track. Increasingly complex moves and strategies are also addressed, and children can play online to check how they are doing. The whole syllabus is presented individually, so you can get the lessons, quizzes and other materials individually. The site also hosts a variety of other logic and puzzle games to help kids develop and consolidate logical thinking, and have a great time while they are at it. For conscientious gamers, a library of articles and eBooks is available for download to go on studying tactics or read fun stories.
