The floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) BW Singapore has successfully moored at Snam’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal off the coast of Ravenna, Italy. The vessel docked at the Petra platform, located eight kilometers offshore, on February 28, 2025. The Petra platform, originally used for docking oil tankers, was recently repurposed to accommodate the FSRU.
BW Singapore first arrived at the port of Palermo in December 2024. Snam CEO Stefano Venier emphasized the strategic importance of Ravenna, noting the region’s skilled energy sector and its advantageous location for attracting gas flows from the eastern Mediterranean and beyond.

“With the ship docking in Ravenna perfectly on schedule, Italy can rely on a new strategic asset, which, combined with the Italis LNG moored in Piombino, is another fundamental step towards supply diversification and the country’s energy security,” Venier said. Snam has initiated a tender to supply the first LNG cargo to BW Singapore for commissioning activities, including operational tests and setup of the FSRU regasification plant. The cargo, expected to be delivered this month, will also ensure the minimum LNG levels required for the terminal’s full operation.
Built in 2015, the BW Singapore has the capacity to store 170,000 cubic meters of liquefied gas and can regasify up to 5 billion cubic meters per year. With the commissioning of BW Singapore, Italy’s regasification capacity is projected to rise to 28 billion cubic meters annually, which corresponds to approximately 45% of the country’s 2023 gas demand. Snam holds stakes in all of Italy’s regulated LNG regasification terminals, including the Adriatic LNG, the Panigaglia terminal, the OLT FSRU Toscana terminal, and the FSRU Italis LNG terminal.
