That Twitter is a news source par excellence has been touted for a long time, and incidents such as the recent plane landing in the Hudson River and the twitterfied coverage it received do nothing but support that point of view. What’s better, then, than a site based on tweets which detail news items of note from all over the globe?
Tweets themselves are not actually aggregated indiscriminately, but they are read one by one and if they meet a certain standard and are credible the information will be included for all to read.
At any rate, the tweets themselves can include matter-of-fact reporting or accounts by witnesses fortunate enough (or not) to be there.
The site itself can be navigated in a host of ways, as you can group news by regions, topics and cities, as well as resorting to a provided Google Map for immediate reference.
In some cases, it is even possible for readers to interact via Twitter with some of the people involved in the featured stories. For instance, when I checked out there was a story about refugees fleeing Darfur that listed Twitter accounts from refugees. All in all, a service that is very well-suited to the dynamics of modern life, and one that might stand as a good indicator of the way the news industry is headed.
