Booshaka offers a true alternative to the search tool that Facebook offers by default, as it lets you not only segment any search that you carry by topics, but also learn about these terms and concepts that are trending.
The search by topic provided by Booshaka revolves around a score which is given by the engine to all the Facebook pages that it indexes.
This score is assigned using an algorithm named “PostRank”, and the criteria that is used includes buzz, popularity and (of course) the number of times the page has been liked. The date in which the post has been published is also taken into account, along with the popularity of the person who has posted it to begin with.
Sites such as this one are going to be interesting until Facebook overhauls its search mechanism completely (something which is probably not that far off in the agenda of Zuckerberg & Co). When that happens, sites like this one and OneRiot will have to provide a different service or look for yet more ways to supplement Facebook’s search.
