BloggersUnite is a community site that has the objective of making the world a better place by harnessing the inherent power that bloggers have when it comes to reaching people and getting ideas across.
The basic premise is to ask bloggers to write about a specific subject on a given day, and raise awareness when it comes to worthwhile causes.
These include human rights, green causes and support for third world countries.
As a result, the site includes an “Events” section that individualizes activities of note such as global celebrations and the launch of campaign for the betterment of the world as we know it.
Likewise, there is a part of the site that is solely devoted to sponsors – IE, companies and organizations that support the Bloggers Unite cause. A link is provided in the event you wish to become one yourself. Some of the organizations that are featured so far include Amnesty International, IZEA and the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
Sites like this one emphasize all the things that are laudable about the World Wide Web, and a visit to it is more than advisable in order to know in which ways you can make a contribution to society as a whole.
BloggersUnite.org In Their Own Words
“Back in early 2007 Antony Berman was the CEO of BlogCatalog.com, a social network and blog directory who’s mission was to get the most amazing collection of bloggers out to the type of audience who loved and craved new blogs. With BlogCatalog designer Oscar Tijerina and his brother, programmer Daniel Tijerina, Berkman began working on an idea to use the large network of bloggers for a force of good. The idea was simple, the BlogCatalog team would pick a topic and ask bloggers to participate on a single day to spread the word about a particular cause or issue to help rase awareness. Within a week the BlogCatalog team began creating a landing page and organizing the very first Bloggers Unite Challenge.
On July 18th 2007 the Donor Awareness
Campaign became the very first attempt at using the blogoshere to collectively spread the word about a topic for the good of mandkind. Seven campaigns and a year and a half later bloggersunite.org was launched to help spread the word even further.
Today, BloggersUnite continues to branch out, giving any user the resources to create and manage a campaign of their own no matter how big or small. We believe that no cause should go un-noticed and we strive to help bloggers find new and exciting ways to use the blogosphere for good because together, we CAN make a difference.”
