Mike Ybarra, the former president of Blizzard, has spoken out about Tencent’s new game, Light of Motiram. He took to Twitter to share the game’s announcement, commenting, “Ladies and gentlemen – Tencent.”
Light of Motiram is a “mechanimal” multiplayer open-world survival crafting game set to launch on PC and consoles in 2025. The game has drawn significant attention and criticism for its striking similarities to the acclaimed Horizon series.
The similarities between Light of Motiram and Horizon are hard to miss. The game features a bow-wielding, red-haired protagonist dressed in what appears to be Native American-inspired clothing.

The game centers around rebuilding human civilization in a lush world dominated by mechanical beasts. One promotional image for Light of Motiram bears an uncanny resemblance to a notable scene from Horizon Zero Dawn. Both images feature their protagonists standing on the left of the frame, overlooking a valley filled with enormous robotic creatures, with snow-capped mountains in the distance and sunlight streaming in from the same direction.
Despite the similarities, there are some notable differences between the two games. Light of Motiram is described as more of a survival game, featuring a building system with “realistic physics simulation where every beam or brick is subject to physics and the forces of nature.”
This blending of survival mechanics with an open-world concept has been compared to other games, such as Palworld, which combines Pokemon-like creatures with survival gameplay. Efforts to reach out to the PR agency of Light of Motiram for comments were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
