There’s lots of truth in Mr. Friedman’s dictum about the sheer non-existence of free lunches, a statement which also applies to a variety of business and service fields, and classifieds is by no means an exception.
BestCarFinder.com is a free used car classifieds service in as much as it allows users to post their ads without charging them for doing so, but it requires buyers to create an account (name, email and a 30 character description of the car they are interested in) to view listings, a feature that might drive possible users away. In any case, the information on the listings is average (it would be a good idea to include the information in chart format and allow comparisons), and not all vehicles have an image attached to them; on the good side, though, the site provides simple contact-the-owner features which keeps the privacy of the seller. Some fundamental sharing capabilities seem to be missing, like being able to bookmark favorite searches or send the page to a friend. RSS features are an absolutely must, as it would allow buyers to keep completely up to date on new listings of their interest. There’s lots of hard work in store for the people at BestCarFinder.com: I wonder where they’ll start!
