The new site BandsinTown lets you find musical gigs going on in your area. Scurry over to the site and you’ll find a listing of events wherever you are just waiting for you.
Refine queries using the slide bar, pick a date, distance from your city, maximum ticket price, and label type (e.g. indie or major). Further filter your search by entering a tag or genre. If you find a show you’re interested in, click on the link for more details; there are artist profiles which can be modified or even submitted by you if there isn’t one, there are Google maps of the venue location as well as venue details, and there’s additional show info. You also have the option of adding events to your calendar or emailing them to a friend. If you sign up for an account you’ll be able to customize your profile, get notifications when your fav bands are in town, and upload photos.

BandsinTown is a good idea. It’s well executed and has an appealing design. The interface is easy to use, and the site automatically detects what city you’re in so you needn’t waste time typing in extra info. There’s also an option to buy tickets if they’re available, which is quite convenient.

BandsinTown is still lacking content. Profiles have yet to be filled, pictures are few. The site is hardly original, but it does seem to have global coverage. How will it advertise itself? Will there be more community options, feedback about shows, venue maps or views of the seating arrangements?
