Baanhem Ventures has secured Rs 3.3 crore in funding from Kumar Vembu, the founder of GoFrugal Technologies. The investment was made through Vembu’s newly launched firm, Mudhal Partners, which means “First Partners” in Tamil. Baanhem Ventures was co-founded earlier this year by Hemachandran L.
and Balachandar R. The company aims to support first-generation entrepreneurs from Tamil Nadu by providing financial support and mentorship. The venture’s flagship show, “Startup Thamizha,” has already garnered over Rs 200 crore in investment commitments for Tamil Nadu-based startups across its three seasons.
The television program showcases promising startups at seed and growth stages, encouraging high-net-worth individuals to invest locally. “Financial support is crucial for first-generation entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to life,” said the co-founders in a joint statement. They emphasized their mission to be a reliable platform for aspiring entrepreneurs to transform innovative ideas into successful businesses.
Baanhem secures support for Tamil startups
Kumar Vembu expressed his support for Baanhem Ventures, stating, “Baanhem’s scientific approach to developing successful startups aligns with my vision to empower first-generation entrepreneurs. This inspired the creation of Mudhal Partners.”
Mudhal Partners aims to build bridges between emerging startups and major investors nationwide.
The firm is also working on creating a startup-investment bridge platform to connect innovative startups with venture capitalists across India. Baanhem Ventures is collaborating with StartupTN, Tamil Nadu’s nodal entrepreneurship agency, to conceptualize “Startup Thamizha.” The business reality show, similar to Shark Tank, will provide a platform for budding entrepreneurs, offering not just financial support but also mentorship to bolster the state’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. The launch date for “Startup Thamizha” has not yet been announced.
However, the show has the potential to amplify Tamil Nadu’s startup ecosystem by simplifying the fundraising process and highlighting success stories. Initiatives like Startup India and Startup Tamil Nadu have already created a thriving ecosystem for young entrepreneurs across the country. By connecting startups with investors, “Startup Thamizha” can accelerate growth and drive the region towards becoming an entrepreneurial powerhouse.
In addition to the current investment, Baanhem Ventures is actively raising additional funds from leading venture capitalists to establish a Startup-Investment Bridge Platform. This platform will connect emerging startups with top-tier investors across India, further strengthening the entrepreneurial landscape in Tamil Nadu.
