AT&T and Voltpost have teamed up to improve EV charging infrastructure in Michigan. Voltpost turns lampposts into EV charging stations. This reduces the cost and space needed for charger deployment.
AT&T will provide IoT connectivity to the charging posts. This will help keep the chargers working and make sure drivers can charge their cars. “As cities move toward a more sustainable future, enabling them to scale their charging networks with existing infrastructure and advanced connectivity is a game-changer,” said Joe Mosele from AT&T.
Jeffrey Prosserman, the CEO of Voltpost, said expanding access to EV charging is important. It will help more people use electric cars and switch to renewable energy.
Expanding EV infrastructure with connectivity
Voltpost plans to install chargers at many sites in Michigan, New York, and Illinois in the coming months. This project aligns with AT&T’s goal to help businesses reduce CO2 emissions. They want to promote cleaner cities through solutions like 5G and IoT.
Prosserman chose Detroit to test Voltpost because it is the auto center of the country. He said working with automakers as they switch from gas to electric is crucial. The new charging stations could also help cities like Detroit make money by charging for the electricity.
Jennyfer Crawford-Williams, a business owner in Detroit, is excited about the potential growth. But she said it’s important to support existing businesses too. Voltpost is expected to start working in Detroit in the next few months.
