Aporrea.org – Spanish Social Center

Aporrea.org is a site in Spanish that gives access to a variety of social events and materials. The stated slogan is “Popular Communication to Construct the Society of the Twenty First Century.” From Aporrea you can access new articles and videos in Spanish. Most of the notices are oriented to Venezuelans, but are of interest to all. The EncontrARTE page (roughly “In opposing Art”) has news items and calendar advertisements along with great art. The site keeps a back log of the art which is mostly a political statement. Some of the images are violent. Many are very patriotic. Aporrea seems to favor the image of the great liberator of South America, Simon Bolivar. His name shows up many times along side calls to support the Palestinians, just as the name of Zapata (another great rebel) is shown by another artist.

Aporrea.org is politically motivated and contains as much information as it does propaganda. The site’s manifesto states that history could be seen as a fight against those who hide the truth. Here they see the truth with their eyes and if politicians still lie about the things they can see, what will they do with the things which are far away? Aporrea is proposed as a way to change the views of the world by art. As they say “True beauty cannot be absent in a transformative process.” Be political and come here for something esoteric to read. Be artistic and come here for the links to great modern Latino artists. See it all at Aporrea.org with a mixed view and join the group.
