Protecting the overall good health of all Americans is the mission of the American Public Health Association, found online at apha.org. APHA is the umbrella organization for public health professionals, and has been since 1872. It works to save people and communities from preventable serious health threats, provide community-based promotion services, and make preventative services available to all.

Their CareerMart is a clearinghouse for job postings in the field, allowing employers to post and job seekers to find a large number of openings across the nation. APHA houses a significant number of publications on the site and offers them for sale through their online store. Their most recent publications catalog is available which includes the ability to subscribe to noted periodicals in the field, including the flagship American Journal of Public Health.
Up to date news of interest to health professionals is available on the front page of APHA.org, along with advocacy and public policy questions that the organization is pursuing at various governmental levels. As the headquarters site for the organization, APHA.org allows members to log in and see minutes from recent national and state meetings, sign up for upcoming events and programs, and take part in ongoing training both live and online. They can also find contact information for affiliated groups and state affiliates.
