Michael Pachter, the managing director of equity research at Wedbush Securities, believes Take-Two Interactive could sell Grand Theft Auto 6 at an unprecedented price point of $100 or more per copy. In a recent research note, Pachter discussed Take-Two’s strategy for the highly anticipated release. “We think the company has plans to sell the game at a previously unheard of price point and suspect that management can offer consumers an incentive to pay $100 or more per unit by rewarding them with a large amount of in-game currency to be spent in GTA Online,” he wrote.
Pachter compared this to Activision’s integration of online components with their premium Call of Duty installments, which led to a 40% increase in sales. He believes a similar successful integration of GTA Online with GTA VI could justify the $100 price tag for the premium game. The concept of a $100 price point for Rockstar’s upcoming title has been suggested before, with the idea that other developers and publishers might follow suit by raising their software prices.
Forecasting $100 price for GTA 6
Take-Two announced last month that Grand Theft Auto V, which reached $1 billion in retail sales faster than any entertainment release in history following its 2013 launch, has now shipped over 210 million copies. Rockstar recently released a free upgrade for GTA V, introducing features previously exclusive to next-gen consoles and modern enhancements.
The company is currently gearing up for the launch of GTA VI, with further details anticipated soon. These comments have drawn a variety of responses from the gaming community. Some gamers express frustration over potential price increases, while others believe that such a high price might still attract buyers due to the game’s anticipated quality and content.
Players note that if one major title successfully sells at $100, it might set a new pricing trend in the industry. Overall, while the discussion around the pricing of Grand Theft Auto VI continues, many gamers are eagerly waiting for more details and the official release.
