The American Burn Association is an organization founded in 1967. Their purpose is to support research, healing, treatment and prevention of human burns. Not only is there a national conference held annually in April, but the American Burn Association also hosts regional conferences across the United States. At the annual conference an election is held for governance of the organization each year. Most of the board is comprised of medical professionals specializing in the field but membership is open to anyone. The organization also creates and sponsors the leading peer reviewed journal in the field; the Journal of Burn Care and Research.

While some may think ameriburn.org is just for doctors or burn victims the fact is many people are involved in a wide range of fields. This could be firefighters, nurses, EMT’s, lawyers, social workers, psychologists and host of other professions. Enrolling in one of their courses or attending a seminar can also be used for professional development and continuing education credits that many professions require.
