Altec.org – Innovative Technologies Provided by Altec

ALTEC at the University of Kansas is The Advanced Learning Technologies project created by researchers to help discover new and improved methods of instruction and learning. The university hosts and maintains a website at altec.org for the project. The research is designed to use innovative technologies to enhance all kinds of teaching and education regardless of the central focus or age of the students. Students from preschool through older adult participate in the project that also tests learning by using new forms of adaptive testing, meaning that the test literally adapts to the person taking it, offering more challenging material as the student does better, and easier material following errors. The entire project is funded by the Kansas State Board of Education, Carnegie Corp., and the University of Kansas. Visitors to altec.org will learn about the project, its goals and methodology.

The site is divided into areas that focus on one of the four main areas of research. Instructional resources are made available through ALTEC’s teacher tools, network and online systems that can enable the instruction of tasks that typically take hours into practical lessons that take only minutes. The professional development area of altec.org shows guests how to take education as a life time activity for teachers and students equally. ALTEC is configured to allow support for a wide variety of programs and methods including existing methods and newly proposed methods. The tools available to teachers throughout the country include specialized and unique methods for creating rubrics, monitoring students, and creating online assessments or quizzes.
