Survios, the renowned VR developer, is set to release Alien: Rogue Incursion. This highly immersive PlayStation VR2 experience promises to transport players into the dark and brooding world of the Alien franchise. In a recent hands-on session with a pre-release build, the game showcased its potential to contribute to the Alien gaming legacy. The game’s high-fidelity VR presentation is impressive, with a level of visual detail and polish that puts it among the top VR titles.

The xenomorphs behave true to their film counterparts, moving in ominous and unpredictable ways, keeping players on edge as they navigate the shadowy environments. Survios has implemented a slick on-body inventory system powered by the PS VR2’s Sense controllers, allowing players to intuitively access their arsenal by reaching for various parts of their virtual body. This system quickly becomes second nature, enabling players to focus on the encroaching threats and survival.
While there is plenty of action, Rogue Incursion also features quiet, tense moments where players must bypass locked doors or reprogram security discs to progress.
Alien immersion through VR gaming
The iconic Motion Tracker from the second film proves to be a life-saving device. It helps players track enemy movements and even serves as an extra set of eyes when placed on a surface.
The game pays thoughtful tribute to the Alien universe’s retro-futuristic aesthetic, with players interacting with various 80s-style gadgets, such as the PDA tablet, which can be used to save the game, download data, and access a virtual touchscreen map. The hands-on session culminated in a frantic battle against waves of aliens while waiting for an elevator, showcasing the game’s intense and unpredictable combat. Survios’s VR expertise shines through in the small, thoughtful details that make the world feel complete, such as wiping blood from the player’s eyes or computer monitors.
TQ Jefferson, the creative director at Survios, explained that the game draws inspiration from the empowering third act of Aliens, where Ripley takes on the xenomorphs head-on. Writer Alex White highlighted VR’s intimacy, allowing players to develop deep connections with characters like the synthetic companion Davis 01. Alien: Rogue Incursion is set to release on December 19 for PlayStation VR2, allowing players to step into the boots of space marine Zula Hendricks and experience the iconic Alien universe like never before.
