Al.gov – Alabamas Offical Government Website

This is Alabama’s official state website: al.gov. Like many sites of this nature, it offers a wide variety of informational services for the state as well as a surprising amount of featured directions powered by Google Maps built directly into the site.

When one visits the site the first thing they might notice is that it is a bit cluttered and outdated for modern webpages, almost seeming like they were really trying to fit too much in too small of a space. However, with the amount of information they’re tasked with providing to the public it’s acceptable. The mobile apps tab has a list of dozens of smartphone apps and some that are exclusive to the state of Alabama itself. It shows a certain connectedness that they know how the modern person interacts with the world by recognizing the increasing use of smart phones and the ease of use that apps provide They even have drivers test practice available with for the ipad and iphone, which I thought was amusing and kind of ingenious.

Other information al.gov provides is for public and private services such as: colleges, libraries, mental health facilities and state parks. As with most state websites, it’s easy to navigate your web browser to with its web address being al.gov and really, it doesn’t get any simpler than that. If you’re a resident of Alabama this could be a very useful resource for you, especially if you’ve just recently moved there and are learning what is available in the area. There is even a weather tracking widget built into the side of the page. Just another nice touch to a fairly well put together government site.
