Albumwash is a members only website which allows its members to connect and share music and albums via the albumwash.com interface. Members login and create profiles and essentially link their music albums to upload for the purpose of sharing the content. The functionality is reminiscent of several similar websites who have gotten into legal entanglements over facilitating downloads of illegally copied music. The owners of the site have attempted to shed themselves of responsibility by placing a disclaimer in the footer noting that no content is actually hosted within, and that all links and distribution is the sole responsibility of the member who posts it. A point system is in place to prevent what are commonly referred to as leechers from coming and only downloading. All participant members must also upload.
A built in search engine allows all users, and visitors, to look at the various listing and albums that have been posted, currently approaching 200,000. The site appears to have been online since 2008, and has a few links to outside information and blogs. The members area is password protected and a membership is required both to upload and download copies of music. The search function at albumwash.com can be narrowed to either an artist or an album name, and results are displayed instantly. A FAQ page includes many of the most common questions that visitors have posted, but there is also a forum and direct contact listings to pose questions for the managers of the website. The site specifically states that it may not be used to download any material that the user does not have specific legal rights to, but also notes that there are no verification processes in place.
