Agriculture.de – Sustainable Animal Production

Agriculture.deDespite the fact that Agriculture.de is a German website, the site is actually in English. For people who are interested in Sustainable Animal Production workshops, discussion, and other online resources, the German Agriculture website may be what they need. The website offers summaries from international workshops which were held between June and October 2000 in Northern Germany. The goal of the Sustainable Animal Production Conference was the “develop a vision of animal production that is truly sustainable,” and adequate for the welfare and health of animals as well as being economically viable.

According to Agriculture.de, the workshops were held during the world exposition EXPO 2000. A virtual conference was also held from October 1999 until December 2000 and the contributions of that are also available on the Agriculture website. The virtual conference was meant to be preparation for, and accompaniment to, and follow-up from the actual workshops in Germany. Although the conference was more than 10 years ago, the Discussion Forum on Agriculture.de is still listed as available and active. However, upon trying to access the forum, all that is currently shown is a page of text garbage.

The Online Resources section of Agriculture.de offers a search box and several subcategories including New Links, Links to our site, Popular, and Add a site. The Agriculture resources include animal health, organizations, research and teaching, and online portal links. Information contained in each section, however, is sparse. In the Animal Health section, for instance, the only link is to a BSE, (Bovine spongiform encephalopathy, which is also known as “mad cow disease”) site in the UK. The Agriculture.de website also offers links to their suppliers and sponsors.
