The Association of Camp Nurses is a volunteer-driven, professional nursing organization which supports healthier camp programs with camp nursing and they can be found online at ACN.org. ACN started as an informal newsletter in the 1980s and was then restructured as a not-for-profit association in 1990. Their national office is located in Bemidji, Minnesota. ACN is also associated with Christian Camping International (CCI) and the American Camp Association (ACA) and links to both websites can be found on ACN.org.
As many camp nurses often work alone, ACN helps to provide the nurses with a feeling of community while offering support and resources for their work as camp nurses. The ACN.org website offers camp nurses the opportunity to share their camp nursing stories and to work through the challenges of their positions. Members of ACN receive their quarterly newsletter called CompassPoint which offers articles about camp nursing as well as member information. Non-members can subscribe to the newsletter for $50 per year (4 issues) by filling out an online subscription form any paying by credit card or check.
More than just a newsletter, ACN provides members with an education center, research and references section, a listing of camp nurse jobs, and the camp nurse store. The ACN store features clip art to liven up a camp health center and a poster which presents the basics of camp health and safety in a brightly colored way. The ACN.org stop also offers back issues of CompassPoint and other publications for camp nurses.
For nurses interested in camp nursing positions and employers alike, the ACN website offers a job center. The more recent update of the employers section was prior to Summer 2008. ACN.org allows nurses to search for camp nursing positions in the United States and abroad.
