9figs aka the 109 Project wants to spread one billion pixels over the web. Essentially, it will act as an online billboard in which each pixel is an advert.
A billion pixels, a billion ads. Quite an objective. This has been accomplished in similar fashion with the Million Dollar Homepage. However, besides the difference in scale, 9figs will offer a very cool widget for sharing the pixels all around the web. Currently as 9figs is still in its infancy the first million pixels will be given priority status, getting premium ad space above the normal ads. Submissions can be made by anyone and it’s free. Just upload your image and get exposed. There’s still plenty of room, so submit your pixel before it’s too late.
9Figs.com In Their Own Words
“The 109 Project is simple, yet incredibly powerful.
Anyone wanting to be discovered can upload their image and an associated link. We widgetize the images by mashing them together (see sample). The project is promoted by members of the blogosphere and users of social web apps, — people like you.
The project will accept 1,000,000,000 pixels worth of images. The result will be a 4000×250000 image collage and lots of friendly linkage. So, please do add & spread your pixels and visit our blog for the latest happenings.”
Why 9Figs.com It Might Be A Killer
Interesting proposition. Although it seems a mere imitation, the 9figs project has a widget which means more effective advertising. Users don’t have to pay for the exposure either. It’s free and dead simple to do.
