Created by a Spanish team, 24Symbols does for books what Spotify does for music. That is, 24Symbols lets you have free online access to books in the same way that Spotify enables you to have music played as you are online. All you have to do is to pick the book you want to peruse for it to become readable online. Over 1000 are already available, and a fair share of these include the works of classic authors. And having added Facebook integration is something that really pays off – users are enabled to share their finds with all their friends in the Social Web, and also to learn about these titles that they recommend reading themselves.
Right now, 24Symbols works only on desktop computers. Which is far from the best scenario – the last thing most of us would do is reading a book on a computer monitor. That is what we have our Kindles for. But that is meant to change soon – an iPad application will be released in due time, letting people access books in a setting that is far easier on the eye.
