Tech gadgets and apps aren’t just for the geeks and teenage iOS addicts anymore. Now, even your tech-adverse parents will be vying for the latest toys when they discover just how cool, convenient and useful some of them can actually be for the whole family. Man, I should really be a copywriter for an ad agency.
All joking aside, these two moms built apps to organize important paperwork and tasks in your household and plan play dates near you on the fly. Listen up, moms and pops.
Katheryn Tucker’s RedRover App
Katheryn is a busy, on-the-go single mom in New York City. With her two kids in tow, she now has founder and CEO of RedRover App to add to her list of responsibilities.
Like many moms, Katheryn found it painful and difficult to find and keep track of play dates, discover the best kid-friendly activities around town, and make sure her precious little ones were being educated and entertained at the same time.
She decided to do something about it and created RedRover, an app for busy parents to connect with close friend and:
- make plans
- tell friends where you are
- create spontaneous fun
- share moments
Katheryn believes in RedRover’s ability to make kids’ life better by finding activities that are engaging and fun and better planned. The bottom line—it’s about making these things easier and likelier to happen. A parent’s personal activity planner, if you will.
Joanne Lang’s AboutOne
With four young boys, Joanne Lang has no choice but to be ultra organized, but she wanted to create a way to cut down on the time it took to be that organized. As a mom who traveled frequently she wanted to make sure her family could easily find important documents (school, medical, etc.) when she was gone. She also had a situation where she paid extra capital gains tax when she sold her house simply because she couldn’t find the proper home improvement documents she needed.
But, the final straw was when her son had a medical emergency when she was gone and she couldn’t provide the paramedics with exactly what medications her son needed.
That’s when she created AboutOne, the simple online organizer to help households share plans and sort tasks. It takes less than 5 minutes to sign up and get started, and it costs less than a Starbuck’s run. If you ask me, being able to stay organized, connected and on top of your family and household is worth much more than my grande soy chai.
