The Multi-Millionaire Clubber Who Turned His Party Days Into Pay Days

Now, I’m no stranger to the club scene, but the last few years have seen my nightlife momentum slow (a little). Andrew Fox, CEO of Track Entertainment and founder of 3G Communications (amongst other impressive titles), on the other hand, has decided to keep the party going forever and he certainly has the financial means to do it.

So DJ, keep the records spinning—it’s time to find out how Andrew turned his love for clubs into a multi-million dollar party empire.

Hey man, I’m on the list

It all started when Andrew wanted to get into clubs for free to meet chicks. As any great entrepreneurial story begins.

Born in New York and raised in Tampa (my hometown!), Andrew returned to the Big Apple in 1997 and launched ClubNYC, a bulletin board for nightlife on where to go, how to get in and special events happening. This was the precursor to what would be his club kingdom.

When Andrew started making more money from his ClubNYC side-project, he had a long talk with his mom about quitting his finance job to go it on his own. With no kids, mortgage or debt, his mom agreed it was a great opportunity and told him she always thought he would do better working for himself.

So, he quit his job and joined the online underworld of the late 90s. He had to teach club managers and owners how to use the Internet, and convince them that his website was actually viable.

Once $1,000 club ads were driving 500 partiers to nightlife establishments all over NYC, people started taking notice.

And, thus the club scene was set.

Dropping companies and dropping beats

When Andrew gained a bit of traction from ClubNYC, he did what most entrepreneurs do, he started dipping his hands in other projects.

For Andrew, he had several successful companies that included starting an ISP, and a CD-ROM turned Web design shop, all while treating his little club site as a side project.

But it kept growing and growing, and in 2002, when it turned a $2 million profit, Andrew couldn’t ignore it anymore. He dropped his other companies to focus fully on his nightlife baby.

Today, the site is the most comprehensive and largest nightlife destination on the Web, providing content, tickets, listing, etc., and generates over $30 million a year, with no investors. That’s right, Andrew has the VIP section all to himself.

And, that’s how Andrew Fox and ClubPlanet became the brightest stars in the party universe. Someone pop the bubbly.
